College Calendar

This group was formed by Dr. Mark Watkins c. 2005 by way of informal audition. Dr. Watkins found certain performers that shared musical philosophies, creating a "whole that was greater than the sum of its parts.”  Out of Nowhere is: Mark Watkins (saxophone), Ryan Nielsen (trumpet) Justin Nielsen (piano) Aaron Miller (bass), and Jay Lawrence (drums). They have recorded one CD (Jazz Hang 2009). Accolades for members of the group include:  

• Dr Watkins returned last summer from a performance tour of Europe

• Ryan Nielsen recently returned from doing his doctoral work at the New England Conservatory in Boston

• Justin is Director of Jazz Studies and co-founder of ArtsWest

• Aaron is a former member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra and is currently working on his doctorate at Nowthwestern in Chicago

• Jay released his CD, Sweet Lime, last fall. It reached number seven on the Jazz charts
