The BYU-Idaho Collegiate Singers have two upcoming performances (one here on campus and a free one on Temple Square in Salt Lake City).
The Collegiate Singers will perform pieces that reflect moods from the sublime to the ridiculous, including music of the English Renaissance, Italian opera, American classics, "Water Night" by American choral phenom, Eric Whitacre, and new pieces by two of Whitacre's up-and-coming competitors, Oja Gjeilo and Kevin Memley. The concerts will feature Brandon Bascom, of the Department of Music piano faculty, and a student string quartet. The Singers will also provide audience members with a sneak preview of songs from the upcoming "Patriots and Pioneers" concert. "
This is a very new group whose sound is quite different compared to previous editions of Singers," said Dr. Randall Kempton, director of the choir, "but the spirit and power of the choir to help audiences laugh, cry, learn and love remains the same." Collegiate Singers, directed by Dr. Kempton is a highly select auditioned choir consisting of students from majors all across campus.
