Emeritus Member, First Quorum of the Seventy
Elder John K. Carmack is an emeritus member of the Quorum of the Seventy. As a General Authority Elder Carmack served in the area
presidencies of eight areas of the world, stretching from Hong Kong as
headquarters of the Asia Area to Frankfurt, Germany, covering most of
Europe. He also served in five areas of
the United States and Canada. Serving twice as the Executive Director of the
Church History Department, he supervised the work of the Church Archives,
Church Museum of History & Art, and the Church Library. He also served in the Missionary Department
and as Chairman of the Restoration of Blessings and Cancellation of Sealings
Committee for the First Presidency. After his service as an active First Quorum of the Seventy
member, Elder Carmack served 11 and a half years as the first Executive Director of the
Church’s Perpetual Education Fund. Today
much of his time is spent in writing on family history matters.
Elder Carmack is married to Shirley Allen Carmack and they are the
parents of six children and the grandparents of 21 grandchildren. They live in Federal Heights Ward of the
Emigration Stake in Salt Lake City.
