Elder F. Burton Howard
Emeritus Member, First Quorum of the Seventy
Elder F. Burton Howard is an emeritus Member of the Seventy. He was born in Logan, Utah, and did undergraduate work at Utah State University. He graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1959.
He has been an assistant attorney general and a special assistant attorney general for the state of Utah. Elder Burton has also served as chief counsel for the Utah State Tax Commission. He was legal counsel for the Republic of Mexico in the intermountain area. He is admitted to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to his calling as a General Authority in 1978, he was a managing partner in a Salt Lake City Law firm.
Elder Howard has served as bishop, stake president, special representative of two presidents of the church, mission and temple president, president of multiple areas of the world, and a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy for 27 years.
Author of several books, including Marion G. Romney, His LIfe and Faith and The Parable of the Silverware; he is married to the former, Caroline Heise, and they are the parents of five children.
